House Oversight Committee Calls for Secret Service Director to Resign

The legislators write a letter after Director Cheatle testifies before Congress.

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer of Kentucky and ranking member Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland requested Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation on Monday. Their letter was released after she testified before the committee, acknowledging that the assassination attempt against former President Trump was the agency’s “most significant operational failure” in decades.

The chairman and ranking member wrote, “Today, you failed to provide answers to true questions regarding that stunning operational failure and to reassure the American people that the Secret Service has learned its lessons and begun to correct its systemic blunders and failures. In the middle of a presidential election, the Committee and the American people demand serious institutional accountability and transparency that you are not providing. “

They concluded, “We call on you to resign as Director as a first step to allowing new leadership to swiftly address this crisis and rebuild the trust of a truly concerned Congress and the American people.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
